Insight

Deer Crossing Elementary School

Deer Crossing (DCES) is located in the Summerfield neighborhood , where I've lived for twenty five years. The families with children in the neighborhood all live within one mile or less from the school, so they are "walkers." It's pleasant to see little kids walking to and from school in this tight knit community. The playgrounds and ball fields are used in the afternoon and evening for local soccer, football and baseball teams to play their sports. Each year, DCES, sponsors a 5K race called the Deer Dash, where the students and parents run the 5k through the neighborhood. Neighbors stand outside and cheer everyone on as they run by. It's obvious that Deer Crossing is the hub of the neighborhood for children to learn and play.
